it seems we have forgotten what it means to truly “own” land

own :

- belonging to oneself or itself —usually used following a possessive case or possessive adjective
- used to express immediate or direct kinship
- to have or hold as property POSSESS
- to have power or mastery over DOMINATE
- to manage or affirm (something) in a way that conveys a sense of pride, accomplishment, or conviction
- one or ones belonging to oneself
;

land :

- the solid part of the surface of the earth
- the surface of the earth and all its natural resources
- a portion of the earth's solid surface distinguishable by boundaries or ownership
- COUNTRY
- a rural area characterized by farming or ranching
- also : farming or ranching as a way of life
- REALM, DOMAIN
- an area of a partly machined surface (such as the inside of a gun barrel) that is left without machining

lawns are each a failure of imagination and production, a reflection of their owners’ lack of true need or drive to mitigate the circumstances we find ourselves in.

the very structure of land as an investment to be managed cheapens it instinsically. when so few people use it as an actual capital-generating asset, failing to see the wealth it can bring, or fail to even get to understand it (what is there to understand a lawn with manufactured plants? i never cared about my front yard growing up, the one that was oriented to the world and maintained perfectly) when it is theirs, and they are its?

land is parcelized, and so are we, a unicellular organ forced to fracture against its will. innumerable, if not all,
externalities flow from this fundamental error.
